About Manyao

Manyao (慢摇, "slow shake") is a Greater China club style that sets sentimental Mandarin and Cantonese pop vocals over a steady four-on-the-floor beat. Most tracks are remixes of existing Mandopop and Cantopop records, old and new, with the vocal pitch-shifted or chopped to sit in the groove. The production borrows Eurodance and hands-up melodicism, trance-style buildups, and modern EDM sound design: catchy hooks, simple minor-key progressions, and big sidechained supersaw leads. The result is warm and nostalgic as much as it is danceable, built for continuous mixing in bars and clubs across mainland China, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese nightlife. It works as a bridge between mainstream pop and the floor energy of contemporary EDM, and leans more sentimental than Chinese Bounce.

DJ tip: Cue and mix around the sung phrase rather than the kick, since the vocal hook is the whole appeal, and check each track's tempo before loading because manyao edits are not standardised.
